Hello Family and Friends --
Just got home from the hospital. 2 of the 3 blood cultures from yesterday are growing a gram negative bacteria, which would explain the fever yesterday. They should identify the bacteria in the next day or two. In the meantime, they will treat with 3 different antibiotics to cover the bases.
They did remove his dialysis catheter today and are culturing the tip to see if it was infected. It will be so nice for Craig to shower without worrying about that.
Craig's hemoglobin (blood count) dropped from 10.5 yesterday to 6 today. There are differing opinions about possible cause. Some feel it is due to fluid shifting. People with kidney problems are often anemic, but this would not explain the seemingly sudden change. He will get a transfusion today and the doctors will continue to investigate this.
The pain in the thigh is a little better, especially with Vicodan on board. The MRI was negative -- no obvious infection or tumor or fracture. Another puzzle. He still has not put any weight on it and can't lift or move it very well.
I imagine he will be hospitalized until at least Monday.
All for now, Sharon
Sorry to hear about yet new puzzles but hang in there Craig... Prayers and best wishes continue to flow your way
