Hello Lovely Family and Friends --
A bit of a rainy day here. There was a street fair with jewelry and soaps and fudge and flowers right outside our hotel. Very sweet.
Craig had a very busy day. Started at 0700 with an iodine test to see what kidney function is doing. Injection of iodine into his thigh and then measuring how much comes out in the ensuing 2 hours. If the number is less than 10, then dialysis is needed and water pills will not work. If the number is greater than 15, then dialysis is not usually necessary and water pills are usually effective. (If number is between 10 and 15, then who knows!) We should learn that result tomorrow.
Then at noon Craig had dialysis in their very efficient outpatient unit -- took 6 to 7 pounds of fluid off.
Then we wisked him off for an echocardiogram, which is like an ultrasound of the heart, and that was fine.
Tomorrow is a big day, starting with another kidney biopsy -- the procedure itself is 10 to 20 minutes, but with the preparation and recovery it is about a 7 hour process. He has already had one kidney biopsy, in March of this year in Seattle. They should have results on next Tuesday.
Craig is slowly reducing his steroids, down from 60 to 40 mg every day.
We will meet with his kidney doctor late tomorrow and try to come up with a game plan, and then we will head back to Seattle Saturday morning.
Nick's first day of high school is next Tuesday, and Amanda's first day of kindergarten is next Wednesday, so it will be good to be home for those days.
We may need to return to Mayo in the near future -- we will hopefully know more after tomorrow.
Hugs to all, Sharon
Craig and Sharon,
ReplyDeleteYou are on our radar every day. We are grateful for your posts, Sharon.
We hope that all this poking and prodding will lead to Craig being able to drink as many Coronas as he wants......especially for the Ohio State-Iowa football game this year!
Love,
Beth and Craig
