Dear Ones --

At last! The creatinine is down a smidge today, to 4.42. Hooray! The albumin is still in the cellar at 1.2. Need to will those kidneys to be less leaky and to hold on to protein.

Craig is learning Spanish from the housekeeper that cleans his room, Jasmine. He is collecting Filipino recipes from his nurse Tess. This will not surprise any of you, but he is making all kinds of friends there on the 9th floor.

The kidney doctor scared us by suggesting that Craig might be ready to go home this weekend. We both had the same reaction -- oh my gosh, how are we going to make that work? Craig does about 3 laps around the floor and then has to lay down in bed. I am going to need a crash course in patience and calmness (neither are strengths of mine).

Amanda and Nick went to see Toy Story 3 with Kirsten, their lovely kid-sitter, and then visited Craig. Amanda has declared that her Daddy's face does not look like a balloon. (we had chatted about steroids -- and she was definitely listening).

To top off my day, our Westie Sparky may have had a few too many yogurt treats today and left a present on the carpeted landing tonight -- and he made sure to roll around in it too. Boy, do I miss Craig!

The Seattle Mariners are playing the Milwaukee Brewers tonight -- score anyone?

Love, Sharon

  1. Great news that the creatinine is plateauing. I agree that the idea of going home prematurely would stress me out too. It would then just be a big hassle to go to the lab and get blood work every day etc. Anyway it seems like a positive "trend" and that is wunderbar(incase you want to learn a few german words while you are at it craigers. I just started myself on pred 60 mg a day and mtx so Im looking forward to looking like a blimp(not!). As my patient so eloquently put it...the only good thing that happens as you get old is you sweat less!! GREAT.
